It is very difficult to completely “stop” the arrival of thoughts because much of mental activity happens automatically.

After they appear, the mind interprets them as having “just arrived.”
That does not mean they are controlled by something external or that you lack agency.
It simply means the brain constantly generates content: associations, memories, predictions, internal language.
Trying to block a thought also tends to make it more noticeable.
Directing attention toward “not thinking something” keeps that content active for longer.
That is why it can feel as though the thought was “ahead of you.”
In reality, you are perceiving the result of mental processes that began moments before entering conscious awareness.
Everything is invulnerable.
Reality begins to fragment into regions governed by rival interpretations of the same system.
